Dr. Patrice Keats and Dr. Natalee Popadiuk, two researchers at Simon Fraser University (SFU) in the Counselling Psychology Program would like to make connections with Canadian counsellors who may be interested in participating in a study that is sponsored by the SFU Research Opportunities Grant program. They are interested in looking at their overseas work experiences with people in traumatized communities and/or disaster relief (see attached document for our call for participation). They have a specific interest in the phenomenon of secondary traumatization in counsellors in trauma situations across cultures.
The results of this study will assist them to better understand the cross-cultural transitions and issues experienced by trauma counsellors working abroad; examine the photographs and oral narratives of trauma counsellors to better understand the impact of their cross-cultural experiences; and to learn more about trauma counselling overseas with culturally diverse clients.
Please help if you can! They would be pleased to have your help in any of the following ways: help in making connections with potential participants; contacts for people who could reach potential participants in a wider circle; or your offer to participate in the study yourself if this is work in which you are currently involved.
